Friday's Floodwater Closed Arts District Shops as Dozens of Las Vegas Streets Went Under

The Halloween weekend downpour that flooded dozens of streets across the valley hit the Arts District especially hard, forcing several businesses there to close on Friday — a business cost to add to the rescues and road closures the storm left behind.

Friday's storm was not only a public-safety story; it was a business story. Heavy rain flooded dozens of streets across the Las Vegas valley on Friday afternoon, and several businesses in the Arts District had to close because of the flooding, KTNV reported — with the Arts District identified as one of the hardest-hit parts of the valley.

The same system that closed Arts District shops sent water across the east valley, where the City of Henderson posted a photo showing debris covering Lake Mead Parkway, and triggered the flash flooding that brought three simultaneous water rescues in Henderson. Clark County urged residents to use caution through the weekend, warning that more storms were expected through Sunday and that children in costume on Halloween night would be harder for drivers to see on wet streets.

With Sunday's rain chance still at 95 percent in the station's live feed and a flood watch in effect for the Henderson and Lake Las Vegas area until 4 a.m. Monday, shop owners in low-lying districts face one more wet day before the forecast turns dry for the week — and the cleanup from the second-wettest October on record continues.
