Clark County Commissioners Weigh Five BLM Land Nominations on Tuesday: 16.32 Acres for the 2028 Federal Sale Cycle

Election Day's other county business is land. At 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, commissioners consider nominating five federal parcels totaling 16.32 acres for the Bureau of Land Management's 2028 Southern Nevada sale cycle — a vote that starts federal review, and does not sell, price or zone a single acre.

Clark County Commissioners Weigh Five BLM Land Nominations on Tuesday: 16.32 Acres for the 2028 Federal Sale Cycle (Las Vegas Strip News)

The parcels are small, and that is the point of the file. Clark County's File 26-2353 asks the Board of County Commissioners to nominate five Bureau of Land Management parcels totaling 16.32 acres for the 2028 land-sale cycle under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, according to the county staff record reviewed in the report read by the desk. The largest single piece the county itself requested is 3.82 acres — a portion of a larger parcel in Commission District A, planned as Open Lands under RS20 zoning. The Bureau of Land Management requested the other four: two 2.5-acre parcels in District F, also Open Lands, and, in District A, a 2.5-acre and a 5-acre parcel designated Ranch Estate Neighborhood.

What a yes vote does is narrower than the word sale suggests. Nomination transmits the parcels to the BLM's Southern Nevada District for screening — legal access, encumbrances, minerals, resources, environmental review and appraisal all remain ahead, and a later sale notice would be the first document to name a method, a minimum bid or a date. Tuesday's action sells nothing, transfers no title, sets no price, rezones nothing and authorizes no development, and the record identifies no buyer, tenant or project for any of the five sites. The 2028 label is a cycle name, not an auction date.

It is also a separate list from the one residents may remember from October: File 26-2294, considered October 20, covered 15 parcels totaling 192.50 acres. Tuesday's five-parcel file is the smaller, later companion, and its differences are parcel-specific — different requesters, districts and land-use designations that the staff record keeps separate even inside one agenda item. The meeting begins at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Government Center, and public comment on the item is taken in the chambers by Interest Card. The screening questions — access, drainage, utilities, habitat — belong to the federal process that follows; Tuesday only decides whether these 16.32 acres enter it.

E-Bike Injuries Are Up 400 Percent at UMC — Clark County, UMC and Metro Police Are Pushing Helmets, Lights and the County's Fine Schedule

The numbers from the trauma center are the argument. University Medical Center reports a 400 percent increase in e-bike and e-scooter injuries over three years and nearly 200 patients treated in 2025, including 30 children — and the county's answer is an outreach push built on its own ordinance: helmets for minors, lights and a bell, and fines that start at $150.
