Las Vegas Just Tied Its Second-Wettest October on Record With 1.31 Inches of Rain
Halloween weekend's storms closed the books on a remarkable month: Las Vegas recorded 1.31 inches of October rain, tying the month for second on the all-time October list, behind only 2005's 1.45 inches.

For a city that averages barely four inches of rain in a whole year, October was extraordinary. Las Vegas finished the month with 1.31 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service figures reported this weekend — a total that ties October 2026 for the second-wettest October on record. Only October 2005, at 1.45 inches, was wetter.
The weather service attributed much of the wet month to the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel, which soaked the valley earlier in October, and the month went out the way it came in: Friday's storms dropped more than an inch on downtown, pushed county gauges in eastern Henderson to between one and more than 1.5 inches, and produced ping-pong-ball-sized hail east of downtown along with the flash flooding and water rescues covered elsewhere in this file.
Sunday's rain — the station's live feed still puts the day's chance at 95 percent — falls in November, so it will not add to October's total. The week ahead turns dry, which gives the valley's washes and flood channels a chance to drain after a month that will be remembered as one of the wettest Octobers Las Vegas has ever measured.
