Las Vegas Driver Sues NV Energy, Saying Fallen Poles Trapped Her in Her Car for Seven Hours
A Clark County motorist has sued NV Energy in District Court, alleging the utility failed to maintain the wooden poles that collapsed onto her car on East Tropicana Avenue during the July 1, 2025 dust storm — the day 70 poles came down across the valley.

A Las Vegas driver who says she spent seven hours trapped in her car under a fallen utility pole and live cables has sued NV Energy for negligence in Clark County District Court. The plaintiff, Kirstin Rachelle Parker, alleges the utility failed to properly maintain the poles that collapsed on her vehicle during the severe dust storm of July 1, 2025, according to the filing as reported this fall.
That storm produced winds of about 70 miles per hour and brought down some 70 wooden utility poles across the Las Vegas valley. A 1.4-mile stretch of East Tropicana Avenue, where Parker's car was struck, was closed for the emergency response, with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police managing the scene. The lawsuit, as reported, says a pole and live cables fell directly onto her car.
The claims are allegations in a civil filing; the reporting read by the desk includes no response from NV Energy, and nothing in the suit has been decided. The case adds a courtroom chapter to a storm that remains a reference point in the valley's arguments about aging utility infrastructure and extreme wind.
