Monday at the Las Vegas Libraries: Free Meals for Kids, UNLV Homework Help, ESL Testing — and One Branch Setting Up for Election Day

Monday at the Las Vegas Libraries: Free Meals for Kids, UNLV Homework Help, ESL Testing — and One Branch Setting Up for Election Day (Las Vegas Strip News)

Start with the meals, because they are on a clock. On Monday, November 2, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District's listings show free meals for children at five branches: Whitney Library from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. for ages 3 to 18, West Las Vegas Library from 3 to 5 p.m. for children under 18, Enterprise Library from 3 to 5 p.m. for ages 3 to 17, Clark County Library in the same afternoon window, and Rainbow Library from 4 to 6 p.m. for children under 18 — with food provided by Three Square Food Bank at the branches where the listing names it. No registration is needed for a child to eat.

The studying runs alongside it. Rainbow Library offers free homework help and tutoring from UNLV tutors for students in grades K-5 from 4 to 6 p.m. — a Monday-through-Wednesday service — and hosts its first-Monday hands-on STEAM activity from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. For the youngest readers, Mesquite Library holds its ukulele storytime, with nursery rhymes and a themed craft, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. for children up to age 5 and their caregivers.

For adults, Monday is the on-ramp to free English classes. The district's Adult Learning Program is starting a new round of ESL classes, and new students must complete a placement test first: Clark County Library tests from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 4 to 7 p.m., while Spring Valley Library and Sahara West Library each test from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. And one branch is already living in Tuesday: the Laughlin Library's multipurpose room is in all-day General Election set-up on Monday, ahead of the polls opening across Clark County at 7 a.m. on November 3.
