New York City Marathon 2026 Results: Andreas Almgren Wins on His Debut, Sheila Chepkirui Takes Her Second Title (Las Vegas Strip News)

The elite races that were still running when Las Vegas filed its morning marathon story have finished, and both ended in history. Sweden's Andreas Almgren, the world half-marathon champion racing the first marathon of his career, won the men's race at the TCS New York City Marathon in 2:06:01, becoming the first Swedish runner to win a major marathon, NBC Sports reported. Italy's Yemaneberhan Crippa finished second in 2:06:14 and Lesotho's Kamohelo Mofolo third in 2:06:26, with defending champion Benson Kipruto fourth in 2:06:27.

The women's race came down to the final strides in Central Park. Kenya's Sheila Chepkirui won her second New York title in 2:24:36, six seconds ahead of American Jess McClain, who overtook defending champion Hellen Obiri — third in 2:24:43 — in the last 30 meters. McClain's second place is the first podium finish by an American man or woman in New York since Shalane Flanagan's third place in 2018, and the top American man, Zouhair Talbi, finished sixth in 2:06:43, faster than Alberto Salazar's American course record from 1981.

Switzerland swept the wheelchair races that opened the day: Marcel Hug won his eighth New York title by about a second over Daniel Romanchuk, and Catherine Debrunner won the women's race in 1:40:02, more than eight minutes clear of Tatyana McFadden. New York was the last World Marathon Major of 2026, run on the 50th anniversary of the five-borough course.
